ARTIST STATEMENT

Madeline M. Allen

“SmudgeArt,” the style of my art is the process of
working within a pallet of colors from my most
vibrant nature photography.
Making art soothes my yearning to be creative
and allows me the opportunity to share my art with others.
My work is often described as having evoked joy, serenity,
and a sense of illusion and magic.

“SmudgeArt” is all about emotion, patterns, fluidity and color
that flow naturally from my emotion at the time of design.
Often times I find myself pushing the envelope
and going beyond the conventional bounds in art.
I am my own leader, self taught and enjoy
experimenting with the “what if’s” in art.
Energetic, spirited, and at times whimsical,
the textured colors of SmudgeArt add drama and illusion
and are always aimed at the soul.

Rivers, lakes and forests surrounded me as a child.
Having grown up in eastern Canada in the small town of
Badger, Newfoundland. Autumn with its rich reds,
jewel-like gold, bright oranges and warm ambers set a
pallet of colors that are forever etched in my mind.
Wild animals and birds were a common sight, as were the
beautiful sunsets of hot summer evenings.  The tones of the
maple and the birch, along with the tamarack, pine
and spruce trees, with their different shades of green
that clad the hills, forest and valleys are part of my soul
and always will inspire and influence my art.
